Optometrists in Kitchener Celebrate the Season

Here at Vincent Optical, we love the end of the year because of the holiday spirit that everyone has. One of the reasons this spirit permeates throughout our community is because so many different holidays are celebrated by so many different religions and cultures throughout the end of the year. Kitchener is a very multi-cultural community, which means that like the people that live here, optometrists in Kitchener celebrate several different holidays. The following are some of the holidays that we celebrate, whether in practice or in a shared spirit, with the community:

  1. Christmas – Christmas is the Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ that takes place on December 25th every year. It’s traditionally celebrated by acts of gift giving to friends and family as well as the decoration of a small spruce or pine tree.
  2. Hanukkah – Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday celebrated for eight days in the month of December. Also known as the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah goes back to 165 BC as a commemoration of the rededication and purification of the Temple following the victory over Greek Syrians by the Jews. As part of the celebration, a candle on a menorah is lit every day.
  3. Kwanzaa – Kwanzaa is a seven-day celebration that begins on December 26th and lasts until January 1st. Each day, a Kinara is lit, which is not too different from the practice of lighting a menorah during Hanukkah. However, Kwanzaa is not a religious holiday; instead, it’s a celebration of African culture and heritage. Each day represents a different principle.
  4. Bodhi Day – Boddhi day celebrates the awakening of the Buddha under the Bodhi tree. While this day varies based on the type of Buddhist religion, Japan Bodhi Day takes place on December 8th. Every Bodhi Day, practitioners decorate a ficus tree using lights and beads, which is similar to the decoration of the Christmas tree.
  5. New Year’s – Unlike other holidays, New Year’s is the one holiday that is celebrated by everyone here in Kitchener no matter what religion! It’s a holiday meant to reflect on the past year and to look forward to new beginnings, and one that everyone can enjoy.

All optometrists in Kitchener look forward to celebrating the festive spirit brought on by all of these holidays this year. If you need to book an appointment or are looking for new eyeglasses (perhaps as a holiday gift), contact us anytime here at Vincent Optical.
